Punta de Mita, Mexico

Punta de Mita

Where do I begin? For starters, while we were on this trip, Vinny probably told me about a hundred times that he was ready to move here! I attribute most of that to the fact that we were staying at Conrad Punta de Mita but I have to say, his idea is pretty tempting.

So where exactly is Punta de Mita? Punta de Mita is located along Riviera Nayarit in the Mexican state of Nayarit, about 10 miles north of Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco. Most all US travelers fly into Puerto Vallarta and then take a short (45 minute) ride to Punta de Mita.

Punta de Mita is is a 1,500-acre private peninsula that is home to some very luxurious resorts including Four Seasons Punta Mita, St. Regis Punta Mita, and our new favorite Conrad Punta de Mita.

We’ve visited several other resort towns in Mexico including Cabo San Lucas, Puerto Vallarta, Nuevo Vallarta, and Cancun and after this trip, we have to say that Punta de Mita is our new favorite. It combines the comfortable resort experience that so many of us look for while on a tropical vacation while also being very close to more authentic Mexican towns and villages that are just a short drive away. It also very a lot less touristy than some of the more popular Mexican vacation destinations.

Getting to Punta de Mita

From the US, Punta de Mita is quite convenient to travel to. Since we live in San Diego, CA, we have the benefit of using the CBX terminal to cross the border directly into the Tijuana airport and take a short 2 hour 45 minute flight from Tijuana to Puerto Vallarta. Then from there its just a quick 45 minute drive. We’ve used this method every time we travel to Mexico because we find it to be not only more affordable but also more convenient. Crossing the border through the CBX terminal is a breeze and then from there, you’re actually taking a domestic flight which means you don’t have to go through customs when you land.

Of course you can always take an international flight directly into Puerto Vallarta as well.

Conrad Punta de Mita

Without a doubt the highlight of our trip was staying at this resort. When we go on vacations we typically like to spend half our time at the resort enjoying its amenties and the other half out adventuring beyond the property. This trip however was different. We felt it very hard to want to leave the resort property at all. It truly had it all. Not only in terms of amazing amenities like multple massive pools, a water slide, amazing restaurants, a game room, kids activity club, and a private beach, the design and decor of the property truly spoke to us. Conrad somehow manages to be a large resort with all the things you could want, while also being not too big where it feels like you’re walking miles to get anywhere on the property. The property itself is only about a year old and you can definitely tell as everything feels very brand new and pristine. I can’t say enough about the design and layout of the property, it was so thoughtfully laid out that every detail and area of the resort feels so welcoming while also feeling high-end.

Our accommodations

We opted to stay in their Two Bedroom Ocean Front Room w/ a full kitchen and boy was it a stunner! The view alone dropped us to our feet. We felt like we could have moved in and stayed forever. It features a full kitchen, living room, two king beds, private bathrooms with walk-in showers. The suite itself is 1,735 sq. ft. so needless to say there was plenty or room for our family.

Dining at Conrad Punta de Mita

There are several restaurants on site at Conrad and we tried them all! Our daily routine pretty much went like this:

Breakfast

We chose to get the buffet each morning at Arbol. They have a wonderful outdoor patio and the buffet has everything you could ever ask for. Each of our 4 kids had zero problems finding something to enjoy and it also had plenty for us parents too.

Lunch

We opted for lunch poolside at Paleta each day. They had a great variety of your Mexican and American favorites as well as some solid vegan options.

Dinner

For dinner we tried 3 different options, all of which did not disappoint.

Mezquite - Offers ocean front dining. Ideal for a sunset dinner. They serve both Mexican and American classics focused around a charcoal and fire grill

Codex - Codex was the highlight of all our dinners at Conrad. From start to finish, Codex is all about the EXPERIENCE. It is situated right on the beach in an outdoor covered patio. The menu at Codex emphasizes ancient traditional cooking practices of mexico and the presentation by the staff incorporates some of their ritualistic traditions. This is a must-do dining destination while in the area.

Arbol - Arbol is Conrad’s all day casual restaurant but their dinner options are nothing but ordinary. We had an amazing meal here and we loved how comfortable yet high-end the space felt.

ACtivities

We stayed a total of 5 days and 5 nights at Conrad but could have easily done 10+ days without getting bored or restless. We barely scratched the surface on all the things to do at Conrad as well as the surrounding area, but here’s a quick recap of what we enjoyed:

Pools

Whoever designed the pools at outdoor landscape at Conrad is my hero. I’ve never stayed at a resort that has a layout quite like this. They somehow managed to make everything feel conveniently close to you and only a short walk away while also having 4 massive pools, a waterslide, multiple bars, restaurants, and a lawn. They have a kids pool and splash pad, a family-pool with water slide, an breathtaking activity pool that overlooks the ocean, an adults-only pool…so basically they have it all!

Kids Club

We typically don’t take advantage of the kids clubs at resorts because we like to stay together the whole time, but we did check out this one and it was very nice. They allowed us all to enter the kids club and the kiddos got to do a craft while mom and dad hung out. They do of course allow you to drop of your kids there and they seemed to have a great setup with a game room and kids’ club. They also offer 24 hour babysitting services on site if you’re looking to get out onto the town for a night.

Golf

We didn’t get a chance to golf this trip but the courses in the area looked INCREDIBLE!

Watersports

The hotel has an activity desk right on the beach where you can rent various things like stand up paddle boards, surfboards and boogie boards. We had fun paddleboarding and surfing. They also offer a ton more water activities like fishing, snorkeling, and scuba diving. When our younger kiddos get a little older we will definitely start taking advantage of the more adventurous activities.

Other Activities

The list of possible activities goes on and on from their onsite amenities like their spa, fitness center, and game room, to off-site adventures like ziplining, whale-watching, deep sea fishing, ATV/Razors, and horseback riding. Conrad and Punta de Mita truly has so many activities to choose from that you couldn’t possibly do them all in one trip. We definitely plan to return to this area and this resort again to check a few more of these off the list.
